William H. Tate of Howard, Tate, Sowell, Wilson, Leathers Johnson Joins Advisory Commission on Tennessee Business Courts

The Tennessee Supreme Court has named William H. Tate to serve on the Advisory Commission for the state Business Court Pilot Project.

As a member of the Commission, Bill Tate will join seven other attorneys to provide input for processes and procedures for the state first business court. The group is led by Court of Appeals Judge Neal McBrayer.


The members of this Commission, who have graciously agreed to serve, have the specialized skills and knowledge needed to assist in guiding the Business Court, said Tennessee Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon G. Lee.


The Business Court Pilot Project was established in March 2015 by the Tennessee Supreme Court to be in Davidson County Chancery Court, Part III and Chancellor Ellen Lyle was designated as the judge. The Supreme Court created this court to handle the special litigation needs of existing and future businesses in Tennessee by providing expedited resolution of business cases by a judge who is experienced and has expertise in handling complex commercial cases.


The court began taking cases in May of this year. More information about the business court can be found at TNCourts.gov/bizcourt.

Bill Tate selected by his peers for the 5th year in a row as "Best of the Bar"

Congratulations to Bill Tate who has been selected by other Nashville attorneys for the fifth year in a row in the Nashville Business Journal Best of the Bar for 2017. Tate was selected in the category of Litigation and Dispute. The Nashville Business Journal collected nominations from the public and the winners were selected by voting among the attorneys who were nominated. He will be honored at a June 27th reception and in the annual Best of the Bar issue of the Nashville Business Journal.

The Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel is pleased to announce that William H. Tate has been elected as President for 2015.  The Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel was founded in 2003 and has grown to an organization of 140 lawyers across the state who are dedicated to the construction industry in Tennessee. The non-profit organization provides a forum for sharing of ideas, education and mentoring of younger members in a variety of complex practice areas relating to construction.
